1989 1990 1991 Roman Numeral $5 Proof Gold Eagle NGC PF70 UCAM

Out of stock

Gold eagles from 1989, 1990 and 1991. 1991 is especially an important year because it was the last year that the gold eagle carried a roman numeral mark on its obverse for that date. All subsequent years switched over to Arabic numerals starting in 1992.

The $5 proofs are 1/10 ounce of 0.91 gold with copper and silver making up the rest of the coin. The smallest of the fractionals but still containing the same beauty and detail as he others.

The design depicts Lady Liberty walking confidently against the sun’s rays, carrying a torch and an olive branch. The reverse of the coin shows a pristine male bald eagle in flight carrying an olive branch to his nest, where a female eagle and her young are perched.
