This proof silver coin was issued to commemorate the 38th anniversary of the Korean War. This unusual date was chosen because the division between North and South Korea occurs at the 38th degree of latitude.
The obverse, designed by John Mercanti, shows a soldier climbing a hill with a naval field below him and two planes above him. The reverse, designed by James T. Ferrel, shows North and South Korea with the dividing line between them.
This coin was minted in Philadelphia and was graded as PF70 Ultra Cameo by NGC.
