This gold coin was minted to mark the 50th anniversary of the Mount Rushmore National Monument. This program also included silver dollars and half dollars.
The obverse, designed by John Mercanti, shows a bald eagle in flight in front of Mount Rushmore. The reverse, designed by William Lamb, is the first U.S. commemorative coin to be designed entirely in lettering. It features "Mount Rushmore National Memorial" in callgraphic writing.
This coin was minted in West Point and was graded as MS70 by NGC.
