This proof gold & platinum coin is the first bi-metallic coin issued by the U.S. Mint. The outer ring is gold and the center is platinum. It was minted to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Library of Congress.
The obverse, designed by John Mercanti, features the Torch of Learning held in front of the Library of Congress.
The reverse, designed by Thomas D. Rogers, shows the seal of the Library of Congress.
