In 2010 the United States Mint debuted a brand new reverse design dubbed the Union Shield. The Union Shield is only the 7th reverse design in the long running Lincoln Cent series which started in 1909! The Union Shield which was designed by artist Lyndall Bass features thirteen vertical stripes joined by a single horizontal bar with the inscription "E Pluribus Unum". This symbolizes the original thirteen states joined together in a single union. A scroll appears across the shield with the denomination "One Cent" and "United States of America" appears above the shield. This design is intended to be emblematic of President Lincoln's preservation of the United States as a single and united country.
This 2010 D 1C Union Shield Lincoln Cent has been certified MS67 RD by NGC. In addition it has been hand signed by the designer of the Union Shield, Lyndall Bass!
