Category: Platinum Eagles
In 2018, the U.S. Mint began striking a special three-year series for the proof Platinum Eagle aptly named The Preamble to the Declaration of Independence. 2018 through 2020 will feature three different obverse designs portraying Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. Last year the Life design was widely talked about as one of the most beautiful designs to ever appear on a Platinum Eagle, which built immense anticipation for the 2019 Liberty design.
The second year of this series, the Liberty design was just released to the collectors and once again, the Mint came to impress! Struck in 99.95% pure platinum, the obverse design of the 2019 Preamble to the Declaration of Independence platinum proof coin portrays Lady Liberty keeping watch over prairies, lakes, and mountains as pioneers head westward. The wild terrain featured in the background evokes the quintessential American spirit to explore new territory and the freedom to pursue new landscapes, ideas, and ways of life. In the foreground, Lady Liberty?s lips are parted, symbolizing freedom of speech. Her torch is an emblem of the guiding light that liberty provides, while the open book represents the rule of law and its equal application. The obverse designs for the three-year series were all created by Artistic Infusion Program (AIP) Designer Justin Kunz.
The reverse design for this series depicts an eagle in flight with an olive branch in its talons. It was created by AIP Designer Patricia Lucas-Morris, and will be the chosen design for all three years in the series.
