This coin is one in a series of four minted to commemorate potential States that were never admitted to the Union. One of those was the proposed State of Deseret which was founded by members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. It comprised parts of Utah, Nevada, California, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming, Idaho, and Oregon.
The obverse (heads) side of the coin shows two bees in a beehive with the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM”. The words “LOST STATES OF AMERICA” are at the top of the coin. At the bottom of the coin is Queen Elizabeth II’s portrait and title with the words “1 DOLLAR” and the year 2020. There are nine stars on each side of her portrait.
The reverse (tails) side of the coin features a left facing portrait of Brigham Young who led the LDS settlers to what became the State of Deseret. The year the state was formed - 1849 - is to his left and his name is below him.
