The 2020 Silver ATB Tallgrass Prairie Reserve coin is the fifth release in the U.S. Mint's popular 5 oz Silver bullion America the Beautiful series and pays tribute to the largest area of tallgrass prairie left in North America.
The Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve ATB quarter is the 55th release of 56 coins. These certified first day of issue ATB quarters contain .999 fine silver and are graded by PCGS in perfect SP70 condition. Only 100 Tallgrass Prarie 5oz ATBs received the coveted First Day of Issue (75 in SP70 grade, 25 in SP69 grade), making this a remarkable low-population opportunity. The coin's designer Emily Damstra has hand signed each label.
On the obverse design is a bust of President George Washington. The first man elected to the office of President of the United States, Washington has featured on the US quarter since 1932. This side of the coin has the ‘P’ mintmark behind the head of Washington.
The reverse, designed by U.S. Mint AIP artist Emily Damstra, includes a depiction of the Regal fritillary. This species of butterfly is most common in North America within tallgrass prairie ecosystems and other areas of wide-open fields and wild grass.
