The American Gold Eagle was first issued in 1986 as the official gold bullion coin of the United States of America. The coins were authorized by Congress, under the American Eagle Bullion Program, as a method for investors to conveniently and cost effectively purchase precious metals. The weight, content, and purity of of Gold Eagles are guaranteed by the U.S. Government.
The obverse design for the series is based on the Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle, introduced into circulation in 1907. The iconic Liberty figure is portrayed striding forward with a torch in her right hand and olive branch in her left. The reverse has an American Bald Eagle flying to its family, designed by Miley Frost (Busiek) along with the denomination and weight markers.
The 2020 Gold Eagle represented the 34th year of issue for the gold coin series.
This 2020 Proof Gold American Eagle four-coin set has been graded by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) in perfect-strike PF70 ULTRA CAMEO and slabbed with the exclusive U.S. Mint Designer Series hand-signed by Miley Frost (Busiek), designer of the type 1 Gold Eagle reverse.
