When the United States Mint announced that it would be changing the design on its Silver Eagles in 2021 — the first design change in 35 years — people went absolutely bonkers. Then, when 2021 arrived, collectors were presented with not one but TWO Silver Eagle designs: The first or “Type 1” version, featured John Mercanti’s original Heraldic Eagle reverse design. Midway through the year, the second or “Type 2” version, was released featuring Emily Damstra’s new Alighting Eagle design. It was a monumental year for the Silver Eagle Series with a “first” and a “last” in the same year of the U.S. Mint’s most popular coin!
The Mint announced during 2021 that it had purposely held back the final 200,000 Uncirculated Type 1 Silver Eagles as well as the first 200,000 Uncirculated Type 2 Silver Eagles. Furthermore, Mint officials reported that they had held back these coins in order to offer them as special pedigreed Silver Eagles to mark this historic design change.
Own this remarkable duo in flawless NGS MS70 slabbed with the exclusive U.S. Mint Engraver Series label. The Type 1 is hand-signed by John Mercanti, engraver of the iconic Heraldic Eagle. The Type 2 is hand-signed by Michael Gaudioso, engraver of the Eagle Landing featured on the reverse of the Type 2 Silver Eagle.
