This coin is a tribute to the indigenous people and animals of North America. When the USA began minting gold coins in 2006, the Gold American Buffalo made history as the first gold US coin.
The obverse (heads) side of the coin shows a right-facing portrait of a Native American man. This portrait is a blend of three different tribal chiefs. The word “LIBERTY” is inscribed to his right and the year 2021 is at the bottom. The “W” to his left signifies that the coin was minted at West Point.
The reverse (tails) side features an image of an American Bison standing on a grassy field. Above the Bison are the words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM”. The bottom of the coin shows the denomination - $50 - and its composition. The words “IN GOD WE TRUST” are to the left of the bison.
