The largest rifle shooting contest in the world happens in Switzerland every year. The Swiss Shutzenfest began in 1824 and the Swiss government started minting shootingtalers to commemorate it in 1842. Each year, the Swiss Mint produces only 1,000 of these coins and less than 600 of those are graded.
The obverse of the 2022 Shootingtaler features William Tell, a Swiss folk hero who is considered to be the father of the Swiss Confederacy. The reverse shows Generalissimo Alexander V. Suvarov on his horse. Suvarov, although Russian, is another Swiss folk hero famous for being the first to withdraw forces from the Alps since Hannibal in the Second Punic Wars.
This 2022 Swiss Shootingtaler was graded as PF70 Ultra Cameo by NGC.
