The burnished silver eagle was first introduced back in 2006 as part of the 20th Anniversary 3-piece Official Mint Set. Each burnished Silver Eagle is struck from 1oz of .999 fine silver. The obverse design features a modern rendition of Adolph A. Weinman's classic Lady Liberty and the reverse features a heraldic eagle with a shield. The new Type 2 reverse was designed by Emily Damstra who is part of the AIP program at the U.S. Mint.
