Fender has been around since 1946 and has become a renowned brand and cultural icon, and that same embodiment of the spirit of rock-n-roll is prevalent in this coin as well. This Daphne Blue Fender Stratocaster coin comes following the success of the Surf Green and Fiesta Red Fender Stratocaster coins, and will be the final issue in the series released by the Solomon Islands. Inspired by the bold colors of cars during the 1950s, the Stratocasters were first introduced in 1954 and took the world by storm, becoming the go-to instrument for some of the biggest guitarists in rock, blues, country, jazz, and even heavy metal. Originally, Daphne Blue was used for the GM Cadillac in 1958; however, it became a very popular color for the guitar.
Visually stunning, this coin perfectly captures that same vibrant Daphne Blue with its three-dimensional appearance and guitar-shaped outline. Holding a legal-tender of $2, each coin is individually serialized and struck in 1 ounce of .9999 silver with a lustrous reverse-proof finish. The coin's reverse features the unmistakable design of the iconic Fender Stratocaster with smooth contours and mirror-like details rising over frosted fields. On the obverse of the coin there is an effigy of the late Queen Elizabeth II, artist's initials, serial number, year of mintage, and the inscriptions: "ELIZABETH II," "SOLOMON ISLANDS," and "2 DOLLARS."
Sonically sealed in an acrylic holder, this coin comes in its original packaging, encapsulated with an exclusive Pacific Rim label. The coin also comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. As for the box itself, it takes inspiration from Fender's originally advertising campaign, including the brand's unmistakable slogan: "You won't part with yours either," and an image of a sky-diver flying through the air with his Stratocaster guitar.
The 2023 Silver Reverse Proof Fender Stratocaster Daphne Blue has a mintage of just 6,000 coins.
