First issued in 1986, the American Silver Eagle has become, far and away, the most collected modern silver coin in the world!
The classic Walking Liberty design by Adolph A. Weinman is still featured on the obverse of the 2023 American Silver Eagle. However, thanks to technological advancements in the design and minting process made in 2021, Liberty now encompasses some of Weinman's original details that were previously impossible! The design depicts Liberty in full stride, enveloped in the stars and stripes of the American flag, carrying branches of laurel and oak in her left hand, with her right extended out.
The new reverse was designed by artist Emily Damstra and sculpted by U.S. Mint Engraver Michael Gaudioso. It features an eagle approaching a landing, carrying an oak branch within its talons as if to add it to its nest. Also included in the reverse design are the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," "1 OZ FINE SILVER," and "ONE DOLLAR."
This 2023-S $1 Proof Silver Eagle is struck from 1 oz of .999 fine silver at the San Francisco Mint, and certified by NGC as First Day of Issue in perfect-strike PF 70 Ultra Cameo, featuring the NGC Gaudioso Signed U.S. Mint Designer Series Label.
