For over a century, Augustus Saint-Gaudens' Double Eagle has been celebrated as one of the most beautiful coins struck by the United States Mint. While the famous Walking Liberty design well-loved, it is believed that Saint-Gaudens preferred a different design featuring Liberty in an Indian headdress. Remarkably, only a single Indian Head Double Eagle was minted in 1907, and today, it is considered one of the world's most valuable coins!

Thanks to the National Park Foundation in collaboration with renowned sculptor John Mercanti, Saint-Gaudens' favored design has been resurrected in the form of the 2024 Saint-Gaudens Super Incuse Indian Head Double Eagle. This commemorative coin is a true masterpiece, seamlessly blending historic craftsmanship with modern design, creating a unique piece of numismatic art. 

Enhanced by modern minting technology, both sides of this masterfully crafted coin have been struck in Super Incuse! Struck in .999 fine silver, this 2 troy oz piece has a limited mintage of merely 2,499. Each piece is certified by NGC as First Day of Issue with a flawless SP 70 grade. In addition, each coin is encapsulated with NGC's exclusive National Park Foundation Saint-Gaudens label, hand-signed by John Mercanti. 

Design

The obverse proudly displays an elegant profile of Lady Liberty, adorned with a Native American headdress. The inclusion of the headdress was intended to give Liberty a distinctly American character, differentiating it from the more common Greco-Roman imagery prevalent in European coinage at the time. The super incuse striking enhances the intricate details of the headdress, adding depth and life to the image.

The reverse showcases Saint-Gaudens' iconic flying eagle, captured in midflight. Behind the majestic bird, a sunburst backdrop adds a dynamic sense of movement and power, with rays of sunlight stretching up behind the eagle. The eagle, a longstanding symbol of freedom and the American spirit is rendered with incredible detail, perfectly complementing the coin's obverse design.
