1999-W $5 Gold Eagle Unfinished Dies Error with W PCGS MS70

Out of stock

In 1999, the U.S. Mint mistakenly struck what was believed to have been about 6,000 bullion gold eagles using the dies reserved for proof Gold Eagles. Because only proof Gold Eagles had previously been struck with the 'W' mint mark, these unusual error coins represent the only mint state Gold Eagles ever struck with the 'W' mint mark.

While it was thought that only about 6,000 of the 1999 W $5 and $10 Gold Eagles were ever struck, population reports suggest this the number may be far fewer.

PCGS certified perfect MS70.
