This proof gold coin was minted to commemorate the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. Two other coins were issued for this - a 1983 silver dollar and a 1984 silver dollar. This particular gold coin was the first gold commemorative to be issued in more than 50 years.
The obverse shows two Olympiads running with a torch. The reverse shows the classic heraldic eagle used in the seal of the United States. Both sides were designed by John Mercanti.
This coin was minted in West Point and was graded as PF70 Ultra Cameo by NGC.
