1986 Silver Eagle Struck at San Francisco

This 1986 Silver Eagle was sourced directly from one of the original U.S. Mint orange shipping tubes used during the inaugural year of the series. These early tubes are known for preserving exceptional surface quality, which adds to the appeal of this MS69 example. Housed in NGC’s vibrant Orange Core holder, the coin creates a cohesive display that reflects its original storage and gives it strong visual presence. Featuring John Mercanti’s classic Type 1 Heraldic Eagle reverse, this first-year issue gains additional desirability through its matching orange pedigree and collector-focused presentation.

Obverse - Walking Liberty

The obverse features Adolph A. Weinman's iconic Walking Liberty, symbolizing freedom and progress. Lady Liberty strides toward the rising sun, draped in the American flag and holding branches of laurel and oak, with her right hand extended. Thanks to advanced minting technology introduced in 2021, more of Weinman's original details are now visible. Inscriptions include LIBERTYIN GOD WE TRUST, and 2025, along with Weinman's initials AW.

Reverse - Heraldic Eagle

The reverse, designed by Chief Engraver John Mercanti, features the classic Heraldic Eagle with a shield at its chest, symbolizing national strength. The eagle holds an olive branch in its right talon and arrows in its left, representing peace and readiness to defend. Surrounding inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, 1 OZ. FINE SILVER, ONE DOLLAR, and E PLURIBUS UNUM.

American Silver Eagle Series

Introduced in 1986 under the Liberty Coin Act, the American Silver Eagle is the official silver bullion coin of the United States and the most collected silver coin in the world. Originally designed by John Mercanti and featuring Adolph A. Weinman's Walking Liberty, the series symbolizes American craftsmanship and liberty. In 2021, the series underwent its first major redesign, featuring an enhanced obverse and a new reverse designed by Emily Damstra and sculpted by Michael Gaudioso. This redesign also added advanced security features, ensuring the coin's lasting appeal and integrity for collectors worldwide.
