This proof silver coin was minted to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the U.S. Capitol building in Washington, D.C. This program was only comprised of this silver dollar and had a maximum mintage of 500,000.
The obverse, designed by William C. Cousins, shows the dome of the Capitol building with stars circling the Statue of Freedom at the top of the building. The reverse, designed by John Mercanti, shows an eagle motif based on the center area of a stained glass window near the grand staircases of the House and Senate.
This coin was minted in San Francisco and was graded as PF70 Ultra Cameo by NGC.
