This silver coin was issued to commemorate Chief Justice John Marshall's 250th Birthday. Chief Justice Marshall was the fourth Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. Most notably, he helped establish the Judicial Review which asserts that the Supreme Court can overturn laws if they're found to be unconstitutional.
The obverse, designed by John Mercanti, shows Chief Justice Marshall in profile. The reverse, designed by Donna Weaver, shows the interior of the Supreme Court as it looked while Marshall was Chief Justice.
