This coin was released as the 35th Anniversary Edition in the United States Mint Congratulations Set. It is the last proof to include John Mercanti’s heraldic eagle design.
The obverse (heads) side of the coin features Adolph Weinman’s classic Walking Liberty design. Lady Liberty is facing the sun on the left with her left arm outstretched. In her right hand, she holds laurel and oak branches. The word “LIBERTY” is inscribed around the top, the year 2021 is inscribed at the bottom, and the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” is to the right of Lady Liberty.
The reverse (tails) side of the coin features John Mercanti’s heraldic eagle for the last time. The eagle is behind a union shield with 13 stars above it. It has a laurel branch in its left talons, a bunch of arrows in its right talons, and a banner reading “E PLURIBUS UNUM” in its beak. The words “1 OZ FINE SILVER” and “ONE DOLLAR” are inscribed along the bottom and “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” is along the top.
This Type 1 Silver Eagle was graded as First Day of Issue PF70 Ultra Cameo and comes with a Mercanti-signed flag label.
