In 2021, the U.S. Mint began a new Platinum Proof Coin Program that will run until 2025. This series will showcase the five guaranteed freedoms listed in the First Amendment of the United States Constitution: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
The 2022 Issue highlights the Freedom of Speech. The obverse of the coin (designed by Donna Waever) features a juvenile oak tree branch framed with the inscription “WITH FREEDOM OF SPEECH LIBERTY BLOSSOMS.” Each coin in this program will feature a unique obverse design showing the lifecycle of an oak tree to symbolise the growth of the early United States.
The reverse of every coin in the series features shows an eagle in flight with an olive branch in its talons. The words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “$100,” “1 OZ.,” and “.9995 PLATINUM" are inscripted. The reverse was designed by Patricia Lucas-Morris.
This Platinum Eagle was graded as MS70 by PCGS. It comes with a PCGS First Day of Issue flag label.
