The 2024 Flowing Hair Silver Medal celebrates the 230th anniversary of the first dollar coin issued by the United States Federal Government—the 1794 Flowing Hair Dollar. It is a faithful replica of the original design with an updated "2024" date, maintaining the classic design that marked a historic moment in U.S. coinage.

Coin Design

  • Obverse - The obverse showcases a faithful rendition of Robert Scot's bust of Liberty with flowing hair, encircled by 15 stars representing the states that had ratified the Constitution by 1794. The flowing hair symbolizes freedom, while the stars reflect the unity of a young nation.
  • Reverse - The reverse features an eagle with its wings spread, surrounded by a laurel wreath, symbolizing strength, peace, and victory.

Michael Gaudioso Signature

Each medal comes sealed with NGC's U.S. Director label, hand-signed by former U.S. Mint Director David Ryder, and graded by NGC as a flawless MS 70. Additionally, each medal is certified by NGC as Advance Releases.

Flowing Hair Dollar Series

Minted for only two years (1794-1795), the Flowing Hair Dollar was the first dollar coin the U.S. Federal Government issued. It was designed by Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint Robert Scot. Of the 2,000 coins struck in 1794, only 1,758 were released for circulation, making the coin a rare piece of American history. This limited-edition silver medal honors that momentous occasion and celebrates the original Flowing Hair Dollar.
