The 2026 Great Britain Lion & Eagle Silver Proof Coin introduces a new reverse to The Royal Mint’s Lion & Eagle series. Created in collaboration with award-winning artist Beth Zaiken, the highly detailed design brings a naturalistic approach to two of the most iconic national symbols in numismatics.
The British Lion represents courage and nobility, while the American Eagle has long symbolized freedom and strength. Together, they reflect the heritage and longstanding relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States. Struck in .999 fine silver, the 1 oz Silver Proof has a worldwide mintages limited to just 1,500 coins.
Each coin is presented with The Royal Mint Original Maker label, hand-signed by Martin Jennings—designer of the official King Charles III effigy featured on the obverse.
Each coin is certified by NGC as PF 70 Ultra Cameo with the Advance Releases designation. This combination of pedigree and signature has a maximum NGC population of just 150 coins.
Introduced by The Royal Mint in 2023 with a reverse designed by former U.S. Mint Chief Engraver John Mercanti, the Lion & Eagle series celebrates the historic relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States through two of their most recognizable national symbols. The British Lion and American Eagle reflect the heritage and identity of their respective nations, with both having long histories in heraldry and coinage.
For 2026, the proof issue features a reverse designed by Coin of the Year (COTY) Award-winning artist Beth Zaiken. Her interpretation takes a more naturalistic and lifelike approach to the lion and the eagle while preserving their traditional symbolism.
