Celebrating the series' 20th anniversary, the 2026-W 1/10 oz Reverse Proof American Gold Buffalo is the program's first fractional Reverse Proof and only the second Reverse Proof Gold Buffalo ever issued. It marks the first fractional Gold Buffalo the U.S. Mint has issued since 2008.
Struck at the West Point Mint in 1/10 oz of .9999 fine 24-karat gold, this release features a special "20th" privy mark commemorating the series' 20th anniversary. Its Reverse Proof finish and $5 denomination offer a new presentation of James Earle Fraser's classic Buffalo Nickel design.
Featuring the hand signature of Paul Hollis, the 41st Director of the United States Mint and lifelong coin collector with more than 30 years of professional numismatic experience.
Each coin is certified by NGC as Reverse PF 70 and designated Advance Releases, reserved for coins received by NGC prior to the official mint release.
Introduced in 2006, the American Gold Buffalo was the U.S. Mint's first 24-karat gold coin, created to meet demand for .9999 fine gold. It remains the Mint’s only annual .9999 fine gold series.
The series carries James Earle Fraser’s 1913 Buffalo Nickel design. The obverse reflects a composite of Native American leaders, including Iron Tail, Two Moons, and Big Tree, while the reverse is based on Black Diamond, a bison once housed at the Central Park Zoo.
