American Gold Eagles

First issued in 1986, the American Gold Eagle is the official gold bullion of the United States Mint and the gold counterpart to the American Silver Eagle. Struck in 22-karat gold, its weight and gold content are backed by the U.S. Government, making it one of the most widely collected modern gold coins.

The obverse features Augustus Saint-Gaudens' design, originally introduced on the 1907 Double Eagle and widely regarded as one of the most recognized images in American coinage. The original reverse, designed by Miley Busiek (now Miley Frost), depicts a family of eagles and defined the series from 1986 through mid-2021, now referred to as the Type 1 Gold Eagle.

In 2021, the U.S. Mint introduced the Type 2 Gold Eagle, designed by Jennie Norris. The updated reverse features a close-up, left-facing portrait of a bald eagle, marking the first major design change in the series since its debut.

Collectors can choose from American Gold Eagle coins for sale in multiple denominations, including 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz, as well as bullion, proof, and burnished finishes. Certified American Gold Eagle coins graded by NGC and PCGS are available, with examples featuring hand-signed labels from U.S. Mint designers.
